Welcome to Deep Dive

ISA’s e-learning platform

The educational programme Deep Dive is the first and only e-learning training platform exclusively devised to address all elements of the legal regime in Part XI of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 1994 Agreement, including technical and scientific aspects.

The innovative modules and lessons have been designed to increase awareness of the legal regime for activities in the Area as well as become familiar with the governance structure and mechanisms in place and the way in which they contribute to the effective implementation of the legal regime for the Area and its resources.

Learning pathway

1. Select Dive

Choose one of the three Dives available.

2. Enrol

Complete and submit the Deep Dive registration form.

3. Certificate

Obtain your certificate upon successful completion of the Dive.

Learning contents

The following five modules are available. You can choose the modules through three different options or “Dives”. See Learn  for more details. Each module contains mandatory and elective lessons along with quizzes on particular topics.

Special Dives

The two following modules developed for the Training course on Environmental Impact Assessment for exploration activities carried out in the Area (EIA) and African Academy for Deep Sea Diplomacy (ADSEA) are available. Please see the About page for more information
